Maintenance Case Study - McVities (London) "At McVities London I assign my Maintenance Engineers to carry out essential Maintenance work on our central Palletising system over three planned shutdowns per year. At the same time, we have BPE onsite on behalf of CSI Industries to carry out condition inspections on various sections of the CSI Palletising System on each visit, this is divided into sections determined on risk to production and discussed with BPE/CSI beforehand. I as the Maintenance Manager, pre plan the work to be carried out during the planned shut down and this is based on information learned from shift reports from the operators, walking the system looking and listening for any potential issues that can only be addressed during a complete shutdown . To back this plan up I will review the very informative report supplied by BPE/CSI from the previous visit. I will note any issues already rectified and prioritise any outstanding potential issues. The below Picture shows a Pickpoint Conveyor Belt we highlighted for replacing which was done on the shutdown Inspection by McVities Engineers so as to prevent unplanned downtimeRegarding BPE, they are happy to make adjustments and assist with small rectification works as they go about their inspections which is very helpful. BPE Engineers also work very closely with the assigned Engineers during the planned shut down and are happy to pass on any knowledge or information regarding issues that they feel will need attention asap. Based on this information we will adjust the plan accordingly. Other benefits of having BPE on site is, they are very happy to pass on their knowledge to our Engineers (online training if you like ) which is a massive bonus for our Engineers. If required and we need more Engineers to complete multiple within the time frame BPE have always been able to supply Engineers to assist. The planned shutdowns on-site are very short windows and we have to get as much as possible completed so all the help from BPE is much appreciated. Post shut down BPE will collate a new in-depth report based on what they have found, what we have managed to do during the shutdown plus update the report based on any other works we have managed to complete from the previous inspection report. This report is then emailed to me, and we start to plan for the next shutdown and source any parts we may need. On a system this large we find that this is the best way to limit the amount of unplanned downtime between Inspection visits" -Steve Chaplin Maintenance Manager (McVities -London) |
